Chargers' Dobbins: Herbert should be in MVP conversation
Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins believes quarterback Justin Herbert deserves more recognition after a terrific performance on Sunday Night Football.
"Start the MVP talks," Dobbins said after the contest, according to Kevin Patra of NFL Network. "Love it. He's a baller."
Herbert racked up 362 total yards and two touchdowns against the Bengals. He led Los Angeles on a game-winning drive with under a minute remaining and made a difficult throw to Ladd McConkey that ultimately set up Dobbins' 29-yard rushing touchdown.
Herbert has completed 63.5% of his passes this season while throwing for 2,186 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and just one interception. He's done this without top-end talent around him as Los Angeles currently ranks 27th in offensive cap spending, per Over The Cap.
The 7-3 Chargers currently hold the fifth seed in the AFC and are now just two games back of the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.
"He’s a leader, and it doesn't really matter what happens in the flow of the game," linebacker Daiyan Henley said after Sunday's contest, per Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. "With a leader like that, man, the type of team we have, it doesn't matter how the game goes, we're going to come out on top."
Los Angeles will face off against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night football next week.
