Panthers' Brooks to have tests after sustaining noncontact knee injury
Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks was carted to the locker room in the first quarter of Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles after sustaining a noncontact knee injury.
Brooks has pain in his knee but will undergo tests to determine the severity of the injury, head coach Dave Canales said Sunday, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Brooks injured himself while carrying the ball. He was looked at on the field and spent time in the medical tent before leaving the game on a cart. The rookie tailback was officially ruled out for the remainder of the contest in the third quarter.
It's the same knee that forced Brooks to miss Carolina's first 10 games this season after he sustained a torn ACL in November 2023.
Brooks was the first running back taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. The second-round pick entered Sunday with only eight carries for 25 yards in two appearances this year.
Chuba Hubbard and Raheem Blackshear are currently the only other running backs left on the Panthers' depth chart. Miles Sanders was placed on injured reserve Nov. 23 with an ankle injury.
