The Chicago Bears are expected to interview former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy this week, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer.

The New Orleans Saints are also expected to be interested in McCarthy, Schefter and Archer add.

The Bears interview is reportedly scheduled for as early as Wednesday. The Cowboys announced Monday that McCarthy, whose contract expires Tuesday, won't return.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said it became "mutually clear that it would be better for each of us to head in a different direction" after discussing the franchise's future.

The Bears have shown interest in McCarthy since the season ended. Chicago reportedly requested an interview with the 61-year-old while he was still under contract earlier in January, though the Cowboys denied the request.

McCarthy spent the past five seasons with the Cowboys, posting a 49-35 record. However, Dallas had limited postseason success under McCarthy, winning only one of its four playoff games.

The Cowboys also limped to a 7-10 record in 2024. The team endured injuries to Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons, among others, throughout the campaign.

McCarthy previously won a Super Bowl while coaching another NFC North club, guiding the Green Bay Packers to a Lombardi Trophy during the 2010 season.

The Bears have been searching for a new head coach since firing Matt Eberflus in November, while the Saints are looking for a full-time replacement after terminating Dennis Allen midseason.
