Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced that quarterback Russell Wilson is the starter as New York kicks off its offseason activities.

"Russ will be our starter, and that's how it will be once we get started here in the spring," Daboll said Thursday, according to SNY.

Daboll's comments come after the Giants made a trade to add an extra first-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft to select quarterback Jaxson Dart 25th overall. New York also took pass-rusher Abdul Carter at No. 3 with its original pick.

The Giants' biggest need in 2025 was quarterback, and drafting Dart in Round 1 was the team's third move to address the issue. New York also signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency.

Daboll said he believes Dart will be able to learn from Wilson and Winston.

"We're going to do everything we can to develop (Dart) and bring him along," the 2022 Coach of the Year said. "We have some good quarterbacks in the room relative to play time, experience."

Daboll added: "I like the way (Dart) plays. I like his competitive fire. I like his accuracy. I like his ability to push the ball down the field, his athletic ability to run with the football."

The Giants drafted Dart over Shedeur Sanders, whom many experts considered the second-best QB available behind Cam Ward.

New York also reportedly considered signing Aaron Rodgers earlier this offseason before adding Wilson, who passed for 16 touchdowns in 11 starts with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year.
