New York Giants rookie pass-rusher Abdul Carter is still looking for a jersey number to begin his NFL career.

After Giants legend Lawrence Taylor declined to unretire his No. 56 last week, Carter set his sights on No. 11 instead, a jersey number also retired by the franchise to honor former quarterback Phil Simms.

Simms initially expressed a willingness to unretire his number for Carter but revealed Friday that his family outvoted him on letting the team's top pick take No. 11, according to Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee voter Gary Myers.

Carter reacted to Simms' decision while having fun on social media Friday.

Carter wore No. 11 throughout his standout career at Penn State before New York selected him third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The 21-year-old previously wore No. 22 as a linebacker and running back at La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania. That number currently belongs to Giants defensive back Dru Phillips.
