Free-agent defensive back Jamal Adams is interested in returning to the New York Jets after spending five seasons elsewhere.

"I would love to be back with the Jets and, obviously, finish it the right way," Adams said Wednesday while speaking with fans on X, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

"Man, that would be a dream come true, just to patch up that relationship and kind of make it right."

New York drafted Adams sixth overall in 2017 out of LSU. The 29-year-old earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2019 and made the second-team All-Pro squad in 2018 while with the club.

The Jets traded Adams to the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2020 campaign after his relationship with the organization deteriorated. He scored a second-team All-Pro nod and his third consecutive Pro Bowl nomination in his first season with the Seahawks, but hasn't earned any accolades since.

"(I would) just come in as a seasoned vet, give game to the young cats and help in any way, shape or form I can," Adams said. "I know I can still play football. I'm healthy, and I know I can impact the game in a lot of ways. I just need that fair opportunity to come in and show what I can do."

Adams has appeared in just 15 games over the last three seasons. In 2024, he played in three contests with the Tennessee Titans and two with the Detroit Lions, logging 40 defensive snaps across those outings.

New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn spent time with Adams last campaign as the Lions' defensive coordinator.

Adams has 501 total tackles, seven forced fumbles, 36 deflections, and four interceptions over 85 games. He's also totaled 21.5 sacks, which ranks sixth among all defensive backs in NFL history.
