Lions All-Pro center Ragnow retires at 29
Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow announced Monday he's retiring from football.
Ragnow, who turned 29 in May, earned second-team All-Pro nods in each of the past two seasons. He was named to four Pro Bowls after being drafted 20th overall in 2018.
"These past couple of months have been very trying as I've come to the realization that my football journey is ending and I'm officially retiring from the NFL," Ragnow wrote. "I've tried to convince myself that I'm feeling good but I'm not and it's time to prioritize my health and my (family's) future. I have given this team everything I have and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don't. I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life."
Ragnow was football's top-ranked center in 2023 and placed third in '24, according to PFF. He was a cornerstone of Detroit's excellent offensive line and had two years left on his contract.
It's unclear who will start at center for the Lions moving forward, but Tate Ratledge - a versatile rookie interior lineman drafted in the second round this year - lined up as Ragnow's replacement at Detroit's minicamp practice in May. Guard Graham Glasgow, who has 122 NFL starts of experience, has also played over 2,000 snaps at center across his career.
