The Chicago Bears and general manager Ryan Poles agreed to extend his contract through the 2029 campaign, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deal means that Poles and new head coach Ben Johnson are both under contract for the next five seasons, Schefter notes.

Poles joined the Bears in 2022 and has transformed their roster in hopes of bringing them back to contention. Chicago's posted a 15-36 record in that span, during which Poles oversaw the selection of 2024 No. 1 overall pick and top quarterback prospect Caleb Williams.

When Williams' rookie season ended with a disappointing 5-12 record, Poles hired Johnson, the former offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, in hopes of unlocking the USC product's full potential.

Poles has orchestrated many moves this offseason, signing the likes of pass-rusher Dayo Odeyingbo, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, and center Drew Dalman while also trading for offensive linemen Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson.

The Bears have not made the playoffs since 2020.
