Chargers' Mack headed to IR due to dislocated elbow
The Los Angeles Chargers are placing pass-rusher Khalil Mack on injured reserve due to his dislocated elbow, head coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper.
Mack suffered the injury in Monday's win against the Las Vegas Raiders. Harbaugh confirmed it isn't season-ending, but Mack will miss at least four games.
"He's like the Wolverine," Harbaugh said, comparing Mack to the X-Men character known for his ability to heal quickly, per ESPN's Kris Rhim.
The nine-time Pro Bowler injured his elbow after his arm got caught between teammate Troy Dye and Raiders wide receiver Tre Tucker while attempting to make a tackle in the first quarter. Mack was able to jog off the field holding his left hand. He watched most of the second half wearing a medical sling while sitting on the bench.
Mack, a three-time first-team All-Pro, is playing in his fourth season with the Chargers. He signed a one-year deal to return to Los Angeles last offseason. The Buffalo product has recorded 143 tackles for loss and 108.5 sacks over the span of his career.
Mack recorded a sack and tackle against his former team before exiting Monday's contest. Bud Dupree saw more playing time in Mack's absence. Caleb Murphy and Tuli Tuipulotu could also see more snaps in the coming weeks.
