The Miami Dolphins and general manager Chris Grier have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced.

The decision comes after Thursday's 28-6 loss to the Baltimore Ravens dropped the team to 2-7 to start to the season. Grier had been with the Dolphins since 2000, taking over as GM in 2016. Miami only reached the playoffs three times during his tenure as general manager.

"As I assessed the state of the team and in my discussions with Chris, it became clear to both of us that change could not wait," Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said in a statement. "We must improve - in 2025, 2026, and beyond - and it needs to start right now."

Ross added, "I have always been and remain committed to building a winning team that consistently competes for championships. I am incredibly proud of our leadership as an NFL organization and our continued commitment to the community, but our performance on the field and our team-building process have not been good enough. There are no excuses."

The Dolphins aren't expected to make any coaching staff changes at the moment, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Head coach Mike McDaniel is on the hot seat given his 10-16 record since 2024.

Champ Kelly will serve as Miami's interim general manager with the Nov. 4 trade deadline around the corner. The struggling Dolphins figure to be sellers, with pass-rushers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb serving as trade candidates. Jaylen Waddle has reportedly also generated interest, but Grier and Co. weren't willing to move the star wide receiver.
