Stroud to miss game vs. Jaguars with concussion
Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud won't play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars as he remains in concussion protocol, head coach DeMeco Ryans announced Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Davis Mills will start in Stroud's place.
Stroud suffered the concussion in last week's loss to the Denver Broncos when his head hit the ground after he was tackled in the midsection on a run.
The Week 10 matchup against the Jaguars will mark Stroud's first game missed since he was unavailable for two contests during his 2023 rookie season. That absence was also due to a concussion.
The 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year has completed 66.5% of his passes for 1,702 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
For Mills, this will mark his first start since Week 18 of the 2022 season. Mills has totalled 35 passing touchdowns and 25 interceptions over his five-year career.
Sunday's matchup could be a crucial one for the Texans' outlook. They enter with a 3-5 record, while the Jaguars hold a 5-3 mark. The division-leading Indianapolis Colts are 7-2 and slated to face the Atlanta Falcons.
