Report: Rivers viewed as potential head coaching candidate
The NFL may see Philip Rivers again after the 2025 season, although in a different role.
Teams around the league have been doing research on the 44-year-old as a potential head coaching candidate, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. This also occurred last year, though Rivers was not interested at the time.
There is a belief that Rivers will receive at least one interview during the upcoming coaching cycle, according to Rapoport.
Rivers, who shocked the football world by coming out of retirement to start three games for the Indianapolis Colts this season, was coaching at St. Michael Catholic, a high school in Alabama, prior to his NFL return. He previously said he plans to return to high school coaching in 2026.
The eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback lost all three of his starts during his 2025 comeback, but his play held steady despite a layoff of four-plus years. He completed 63% of his passes for 544 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions.
