Super Bowl insights: Eager bettors heavily backing Seahawks

With the Super Bowl still over a week away, the Seahawks are the team eager bettors are backing to lift the Lombardi Trophy.

Bets on Seattle have accounted for 74% of the handle (money wagered) and 71% of the total tickets placed on the game's spread on theScore Bet as of Thursday. The Seahawks initially opened as 3.5-point favorites over the Patriots, but that spread has since moved a point to the Seahawks (-4.5).

Sam Darnold and Co. are also trusted straight up, with 64% of the handle and 58.5% of the total bets placed on the moneyline in support of Seattle. The Seahawks are -230 on the moneyline, implying a 69.7% probability of winning.

However, even though a lot of the love is directed toward Seattle, Drake Maye leads in both handle and total bets in the MVP market. Perhaps bettors expecting a Patriots win may find better value in backing Maye for MVP at +250, rather than New England at +195 on the moneyline. If the Pats pull off the upset, the 23-year-old has a great shot at taking home the honor.

Although Darnold is second in both handle and bets in the MVP market, he remains the favorite to win at +115. Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (+550) and running back Kenneth Walker (+700) are also drawing early interest in the MVP market.

Additionally, Smith-Njigba is the most bet-on player to score a touchdown with -105 odds. Walker (-170), Rhamondre Stevenson (+155), Stefon Diggs (+225), and Maye (+325) round out the top five. Maye cashed in for bettors last week at similar odds when he ran in for New England's lone touchdown against the Broncos.

There could still be a surge of bets placed on the Patriots as the Super Bowl nears. But as it stands right now, most bettors are putting their money on Seattle.
