Report: Jags plan to utilize Hunter as full-time CB, part-time WR in 2026
The Jacksonville Jaguars plan to utilize Travis Hunter as a full-time cornerback and part-time wide receiver next season, according to NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.
Hunter is expected to be fully recovered by Week 1 after undergoing surgery to repair his LCL in November, Wolfe adds.
This would be a flip from his rookie season, as the 22-year-old played 66.7% of the Jaguars' offensive snaps while only being on the field for 35.9% of the defensive plays.
"Obviously at this point, walking into the offseason, corner is a position where we have a few guys who are on expiring contracts," Jags general manager James Gladstone said in mid-January, according to Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper. "So, by default, you can expect there to be a higher emphasis on his placement."
Cornerback Greg Newsome, who started Jacksonville's final 12 games of the year after being acquired from the Cleveland Browns during the season, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in March. Montaric Brown is also set to hit the open market after starting 12 contests in 2025.
Hunter played in seven contests last season, recording 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown. He also posted 15 tackles and three passes defended on defense.
The Jaguars traded the No. 5 pick in the 2025 draft, along with their 2026 first-rounder, to move up three spots in the draft to select the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner last April.
