Okonkwo agrees to 3-year deal with Commanders
The Washington Commanders agreed to a three-year contract with former Tennessee Titans tight end Chig Okonkwo, his agents confirmed Wednesday to NFL Network's "The Insiders."
The deal is slated to be worth up to $30 million, "The Insiders" reported.
The Commanders weren't finished. They signed safety Nick Cross to a two-year deal worth up to $14 million, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported minutes later. Washington also added pass-rusher K'Lavon Chaisson on a one-year, $12-million contract earlier Wednesday.
Okonkwo set career highs in receptions (56) and receiving yards (560) last season. He's been a reliable receiving threat, posting at least 450 yards in each of his four seasons.
Cross started every game for the Indianapolis Colts in the last two years. He recorded four interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 3.5 sacks in that span.
The Commanders were in the market for a new tight end after Zach Ertz became a free agent. Last season, a torn ACL ended the 35-year-old's campaign after 13 games.
