Edler to sign 1-day contract to retire with Canucks
Alexander Edler will ink a one-day deal to end his playing career with the Vancouver Canucks, the club announced Tuesday.
Edler hasn't played since 2022-23, when he suited up for his second season with the Los Angeles Kings. The 38-year-old defenseman played his first 15 campaigns with the Canucks.
The Swede will leave the game with 104 goals and 335 assists while averaging 22:14 of ice time in 1,030 games played. He helped Vancouver reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2011 and then established career highs with 11 tallies and 38 helpers the following season.
Edler produced eight goals and 32 assists in 93 postseason contests, including a pair of tallies and nine helpers while averaging 24:47 of ice time over 25 games during the Cup run.
He ranks fourth in Canucks history and first among Vancouver blue-liners with 925 regular-season games played. Edler won gold representing Sweden at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships, and he helped his home nation capture silver at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
The Canucks will honor Edler on Oct. 11 before they host the Philadelphia Flyers.
