Utah signs Guenther to 8-year extension with reported $7.14M AAV
Utah Hockey Club announced Friday they signed winger Dylan Guenther to an eight-year extension.
The contract's average annual value will be $7.14 million, reports All City's Craig Morgan.
"Dylan is elite in every aspect on and off the ice," general manager Bill Armstrong said in a statement. "He is a young, highly skilled forward with a shot that's evolving into one of the best in the NHL. He's also a first-class person with a strong determination to be great."
The contract will make Guenther the team's second-highest paid forward, just a shade under Clayton Keller's $7.15-million AAV. Defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, who was acquired in the offseason, is Utah's overall highest-paid player with an $8.5-million AAV.
"Everything about this organization is on the right track, and I know we have an opportunity to do some special things here for a long time," Guenther said. "Utah is where I want to be, and I'm proud to commit to my teammates and the organization long term."
Guenther is entering the final year of his entry-level contract. The extension will begin in 2025-26.
The 21-year-old only has 78 NHL games under his belt, but he's managed 24 goals and 26 assists while averaging 14:56 of ice time per contest. He scored 18 goals in 45 appearances a year ago, good for a 33-goal pace over 82 games.
The Arizona Coyotes drafted Guenther ninth overall in 2021.
