Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid returned to the lineup Wednesday against the Vegas Golden Knights, ending a three-game absence from an ankle injury that initially was given a two-to-three week recovery timeline.

"I feel good," McDavid said before the contest. "Looking forward to going and getting back in there."

The superstar registered two shots on goal in 21:02 minutes of ice time during the Oilers' 4-2 defeat to their Pacific Division rivals.

McDavid was injured during the first period of Edmonton's Oct. 30 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets after a fall into the boards. The Oilers went 2-1-0 without him.

Here's how the Oilers lined up at practice with their leader back in the mix:

McDavid registered 10 points in 10 games before being sidelined. He's eight points away from hitting 1,000 for his career in just his 10th NHL season.

The Oilers are currently fifth in the Pacific Division at 6-7-1. Vegas is in the top spot at 9-3-1.
