Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle is out indefinitely with a lacerated quadricep muscle, the team announced Wednesday.

The laceration was surgically repaired, and he was recently released from the hospital.

Guhle suffered the injury after crashing into the boards during the third period of Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. He was able to leave the ice under his own power.

The 23-year-old has four goals, 14 points, and 100 blocks in 44 games this season while averaging a career-high 21:14 of ice time per contest.

Montreal inked Guhle to a six-year extension in July with a $5.55-million cap hit that kicks in next season.
