Calgary Flames forward Connor Zary was suspended two games for elbowing Vancouver Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced Thursday.
Zary delivered a high, retaliatory elbow to Pettersson's head Wednesday after the Canucks defenseman laid out Nazem Kadri with an open-ice hit moments earlier. He received a two-minute minor for elbowing on the play.
This marks the first suspension of Zary's two-year career.
Pettersson played one more shift in the first period before exiting for good.
