Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson won't play the club's final three games of the regular season as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury, head coach Rick Tocchet announced Saturday.

Pettersson's been out of action since March 22.

The Canucks were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention earlier this week. The underwhelming season follows a campaign in which they won the Pacific Division and reached Game 7 of the second round.

Pettersson struggled to produce this season, amassing 45 points in 64 games after 102- and 89-point outputs in the previous two campaigns. He was also involved in a highly publicized feud with former teammate J.T. Miller that culminated in the latter being traded to the New York Rangers.

The Canucks signed Pettersson to an eight-year, $92.8-million extension last March. He's played seven seasons with the club since being drafted fifth overall in 2017 and has recorded 457 points in 471 games.
