The Colorado Avalanche forced a winner-takes-all Game 7 with a 7-4 victory Thursday against the Dallas Stars.

Midway through the third period, Stars forward Sam Steel attempted to clear the puck but inadvertently hit teammate Colin Blackwell. The puck ricocheted off Blackwell and past goaltender Jake Oettinger, an own goal that stood as the game-winner.

Defensemen Josh Manson and Cale Makar added empty-net goals to complete the victory.

Stars forwards Mikko Rantanen and Roope Hintz tied the NHL record for points in a playoff period with four in the second frame, becoming the first teammates to accomplish the feat simultaneously.

The Avalanche fired 48 shots on goal for the second time in the series, matching their total from Game 4's 4-0 victory.

Stars head coach Peter DeBoer is 8-0 in Game 7s in his NHL career.

Game 7 goes Saturday in Dallas.
