He subsequently signed an eight-year extension at a $12-million cap hit.</p><p>Marner has played his entire 637-game career with the Maple Leafs after they drafted him in 2015. He's accumulated 213 goals and 716 points in the regular season but has drawn criticism for his playoff performances.</p><p>The Markham, Ontario, native has 11 goals and 50 points in 57 career postseason contests. Marner managed just one goal and three points in Toronto's seven-game loss to the Boston Bruins last spring.</p><p>Rantanen has 289 goals and 687 points in 632 career games. He netted a career-high 55 goals and 105 points in 2022-23 and eclipsed 100 points last season as well. The 28-year-old been exceptional in the playoffs, racking up 34 goals and 101 points in 81 postseason contests. He won the Stanley Cup in 2022 with the Colorado Avalanche.</p>

"I mean, that comes with not getting the looks, trying to make the perfect pass instead of maybe simplifying it. I've always been a pass-first guy, but I also have a good shot, so I should use it more, yes. It's definitely been, maybe not trusting it, but hopefully, that's not a headline. I'll definitely look to shoot more moving forward."</p><p>Pettersson last found the back of the net Jan. 21 against the Buffalo Sabres. He has just five assists over his goalless drought, and he has one or fewer shots on goal in his past nine contests.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The 26-year-old also walked back his comments about the media. Pettersson <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3225607" href="https://thescore.com/news/3225607">said</a> it was "more annoying dealing with the media" than his scoring slump after a loss against the Utah Hockey Club on Feb. 23.</p><p>"I missed a breakaway, and I got asked about it and how frustrating the season has been," Pettersson said. "I was really mad in that moment and said something I didn't mean, and said media is annoying, which some days it can be, but it's the last thing that's making me play bad, or not myself this year. I just wanted to make that clear."</p><p>Pettersson has gone another three games without a goal since his comments and is a minus-5 in that stretch. He appreciates the mounting pressure to turn things around.</p><p>"Pressure is good, it means you care," Pettersson said. "If I wouldn't care, I wouldn't think too much about it. I want to turn it around more than anyone."</p><p>Vancouver head coach Rick Tocchet is hopeful Pettersson's positive flashes in practice lead to a turn in form.</p><p>"The last 48 or 72 hours, he's doing stuff that I'm like, 'wow,'" Tocchet <a href="https://www.nhl.com/canucks/video/practice-head-coach-rick-tocchet-6369607584112">said</a>. "Like, that's the stuff we need from you. The way I look at it, if he has a good 22 games for us, we might all forget about the 60 games this year. I've seen players have just average years, then have great playoffs."</p><p>"Don't waste games," Tocchet added. "Like, he's got enough time to turn this around and help this team get where they wanna get."</p>

It's a perfect fit on paper.</p><p>There are two major hurdles to overcome for this move to become a reality. Nashville has to be convinced to move O'Reilly, who is signed for another two seasons at a very reasonable $4.5-million cap hit, and O'Reilly himself has to be interested in relocating.</p><p>Of course, O'Reilly elected to sign with the Predators in 2023 instead of re-upping with the Leafs after being acquired by Toronto at the deadline that year. Karlsson would bump Kulikov back down and replace <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3946" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3946">Aaron Ekblad</a> on the top power-play unit.</p><p>Florida would need help to make the salary work. Karlsson is under contract for another two seasons after this year at a $10-million cap hit. The Penguins are currently retaining two players, but both contracts expire at the end of the season. Pittsburgh could retain some on Karlsson if the price was worth it.</p><p>Karlsson to the Panthers is the longest shot on this list, but it's the most fun trade to imagine.</p>

The three-point system would see one-win Sweden advance over two-overtime-win Canada if Sweden's victory comes in regulation.</p><p>That being said, Canada can keep it simple. "It sucks it didn't go our way, but this thing's far from over."</p><p>The U.S. clinched a spot in the final with the regulation win. Canada will join the Americans in the title game with a regulation win against Finland on Monday. If Canada beats Finland in overtime, Sweden must go to overtime or lose in regulation for Canada to advance. A Canadian loss of any kind ends its tournament.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3949" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3949">Sam Bennett</a> reiterated McDavid's sentiment but made it clear the team is still focused on the task at hand.</p><p>"It's the greatest rivalry in hockey, and they got us tonight," Bennett said, according to <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/topic/4-nations-face-off/canada-misses-its-moment-in-4-nations-face-off-loss-to-united-states">NHL.com's Mike Zeisberger</a>. Canada went on to avenge the loss in the gold-medal game with Sidney Crosby's iconic overtime winner.</p><p>Head coach Jon Cooper is turning his attention to Finland with a sense of pride.</p><p>"The result is unfortunate, but I don't think anybody can leave the building and say that that team didn't stick up for each other or care for each other and play with passion," Cooper said, according to Zeisberger. "And when you do have that, the ceiling is limitless, what the team can do.
