<p>The Vancouver Canucks acquired forward <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/9202" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9202">Lukas Reichel</a> from the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2027 fourth-round pick, the teams announced Friday.</p><p>Reichel has two goals and four points in five games this season but has been a healthy scratch three times. He tallied two goals and three points on Oct. 15 versus the St. Louis Blues. Reichel has played under 11 minutes in four of his five appearances to start the campaign.</p><p>The 23-year-old had requested a trade in search of a better fit, reports <a href="https://x.com/PierreVLeBrun/status/1981815964971782602">TSN's Pierre LeBrun</a>.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Reichel notched a career-best eight goals and 22 points in 70 contests last campaign. He has primarily featured on the wing recently after struggling with a 40.5% career faceoff win percentage.</p><p>"Lukas is an exciting young player and someone we feel can help improve our forward group," Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said. "He's a talented playmaker who can create scoring opportunities with his offensive ability. We like the way he moves on the ice and his overall work ethic and feel our coaching staff can help him become a better and more consistent hockey player."</p><p>Reichel is signed through this season at a $1.2-million cap hit and is set to be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights next summer.</p><p>The Canucks are in need of help up front with injuries to <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/6526" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/6526">Filip Chytil</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/5506" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/5506">Teddy Blueger</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/9827" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9827">Nils Hoglander</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/12758" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/12758">Jonathan Lekkerimaki</a>. He's flashed exciting offensive upside with 42 goals and 116 points in 121 career AHL contests but has yet to realize that potential in the NHL. Reichel has 22 goals and 58 points in 174 NHL games and is a minus-60 over parts of six seasons.</p><p>Reichel was one of six players named to Germany's preliminary Olympic roster in June.</p>

<p>It was a conversation with PWHL Vancouver general manager Cara Gardner Morey that made <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15850" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15850">Sarah Nurse</a> realize joining one of the league's expansion teams could actually be the best thing for her career.</p><p>"She basically said to me, 'Nursey, I feel like you are this incredible player, this incredible person. You've done amazing things on and off the ice, but I feel like there's 5% of you that I want to tap into, that I can help take you to that absolute next level,'" Nurse detailed to theScore at her Summer Summit in August. "And that really resonated with me."</p><p>That helped put Nurse "over the edge," in her words, to sign with Vancouver after the Toronto Sceptres left the forward unprotected in the PWHL's expansion process, which limited teams to initially protecting just three players.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>A motivated Nurse pushing to reach new heights is a scary thought for the rest of the PWHL - and for Team USA entering an Olympic year. After all, the 30-year-old Hamilton native already owns the Olympic scoring record of 18 points (set in 2022) and ranked second in PWHL scoring in the league's inaugural 2024 campaign.</p><p>Last season didn't go according to plan for Nurse. After a formidable start, she sustained a lower-body injury at the Rivalry Series in February that derailed the rest of her campaign. Gardner Morey and head coach Brian Idalski lead a completely new group that could be just what Nurse needs to unlock that extra 5%.</p><p>"It's really gotten me to push myself and grow," Nurse said of moving to a new city. "In Toronto, I've been surrounded by so many people that I've been around for so long that I have such a high level of respect for. I have coaches, I have people on staff, I have teammates who I've been with for seven to 10 years, and I absolutely adore all of them. I really think that this is a great step for me to break out of my shell, to break out of, I guess, the mold I've been in in Toronto, and really push myself to be an even better version of myself in Vancouver."</p><p>Moving on from Toronto was never part of Nurse's original plan; she wrote in her <a href="https://torontolife.com/city/sarah-nurse-leaving-toronto-sceptres-letter/">goodbye letter</a> to the city that she never thought she'd leave. The expansion process gave Nurse a first-hand lesson in the business side of hockey.</p><p>"It's cutthroat and ruthless, in the best way," Nurse said. "Obviously, the expansion was very aggressive. In a startup, in what we're trying to do, it really does have to be. I know people talked about three players being protected being ridiculously low, but in order to expand to new markets and create franchises that are going to be able to compete from Day 1, that's what we had to do. You may not have agreed with it, I may not have agreed with it - like, we didn't love the whole process, but it's what was necessary.</p><p>"Our league's a startup. At the end of the day, what we're building isn't necessarily for us. We're getting to reap some benefits right now, but it's for 20, 30, 40 years from now, when this is just the absolute buzzing, booming business from coast to coast."</p><p>Motivation is high for Nurse entering Vancouver's inaugural year, as well as what will almost certainly be her third Olympics. I don't care if I'm playing Toronto, Team USA, the kids down the street, I want to beat them, right?" Nurse said.</p><p>"I think that there's going to be a lot of motivation. There will be girls coming in with chips on their shoulders. At the end of the day, I have a lot of respect and a lot of grace for the GMs, because they could only protect three players. I don't look at myself as being more worthy of being protected than the three players that were (protected by Toronto), because those are three incredible players as well."</p><p>While some around the PWHL spent part of their summer hosting hockey camps, Nurse took a different approach to giving back.</p><p>Nurse hosted her Summer Summit in downtown Toronto on Aug. 23: a conference designed to show young women the broad range of career opportunities connected to sports. Guest speakers ranged in background from business to fashion and more, all with the goal of inspiring the next generation.</p><p>"You don't have to be an athlete to actually be involved in sport," said Nurse, who was inspired to create the conference after being a panelist at the espnW Summit Canada in 2023. "I wanted to show people that there is a place in sport for absolutely everybody, and that doesn't have to include being on the ice or on the field or on the court."</p>

"I haven't thought about it a ton up until this point. I think that's probably why I don't, because then I'll get emotional about it. But it'll be hard not to. There are too many memories, and I was here too long."</p><p>Marchand played 16 seasons with the Bruins before being dealt to the Panthers at last season's trade deadline. He ranks fourth in Bruins history in goals (422), fifth in scoring (976), and fourth in games played (1,090). Marchand won the Stanley Cup with Boston in 2011.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Panthers faced Boston days after Marchand was traded, but he didn't play due to injury. Marchand enjoyed immediate success in Florida once healthy, racking up 20 points in 23 playoff games as the Panthers claimed their second straight Stanley Cup. The Nova Scotia native re-signed with Florida just before free agency on a six-year, $31.5-million pact.</p><p>As Marchand returns to Boston, he's appreciative of Bruins fans and their passion.</p><p>"You go to all these places around the league where people don't show up and don't care, and they don't say anything, and you don't hear about hockey when you leave the rink," Marchand said. "But (Boston) is a real sports city. So when you leave, they care about it. They'll take it home and wear it to work the next day, just like you do. They don't just turn the TV off and forget about it. So when you have a fan base that's passionate like that, you've got to embrace it and appreciate it."</p><p>Marchand will try to cherish the moment, something he admits he hasn't done enough in his career.</p><p>"I'm just excited about it," Marchand said. "It'll be fun to be back here. It'll be fun to play the Bruins. It'll be fun to play against teammates. Have friends and family in the building again. These are things that, down the road, I think I'll really appreciate. There's been enough moments that I kind of went through and I didn't take it in enough or I didn't really appreciate it, and this is one that I will make sure that I do."</p>

<p>Montreal Canadiens defenseman <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/12709" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/12709">Lane Hutson</a> believes teammate <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/10510" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/10510">Cole Caufield</a> should make Team USA's Olympic roster due to his clutch goal-scoring ability.</p><p>"I think we saw it when (Team USA) went to OT versus Canada. They need someone to score, and in those big moments, that's something (Caufield) can bring," Hutson said after Caufield scored his second consecutive game-winning overtime goal Thursday, according to <a href="https://x.com/EricEngels/status/1979021614277697738">Sportsnet's Eric Engels</a>.</p><p>He continued, "Not only that, I think he generates so much at five-on-five, and he's a threat on the power play. I think when you give him some good players to play with, he makes them even better, and he shines through. Just the skill and the work ethic and the scoring threat that he is, I think he should be on that team."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Caufield's winning goal versus the Nashville Predators was his 10th career overtime tally, which ties him with Howie Morenz and Max Pacioretty for the Canadiens' all-time record. And Winnipeg Jets winger <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/5545" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/5545">Kyle Connor</a> penned an eight-year, $96-million extension earlier Wednesday.</p><p>Eichel has racked up 239 goals and 608 points over 10 seasons with the Sabres and Golden Knights. He won the Stanley Cup in his first full campaign in Vegas, leading all playoff performers with 26 points in 22 contests.</p><p>The Golden Knights acquired Eichel from Buffalo in November 2021 for <a href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/5550">Alex Tuch</a>, <a href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8680">Peyton Krebs</a>, a first-round pick, and a second-round pick.</p>

He racked up 213 goals and 402 points in 627 games as a Blue Jacket to rank second in franchise history in goals and points behind Rick Nash. Atkinson is Columbus' all-time playoff scoring leader with 10 goals and 26 points in 35 postseason contests.</p><p>The 36-year-old tallied four goals and nine points in 39 games last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Atkinson notched a career-best 41 goals and 69 points in the 2018-19 campaign with Columbus. He eclipsed the 20-goal mark in seven seasons - six as a Blue Jacket, and once with the Philadelphia Flyers.</p><p>The 5-foot-8 winger finishes his NHL career with 253 goals and 489 points in 809 games with the Blue Jackets, Flyers, and Lightning.</p><p>Columbus drafted Atkinson in the sixth round, 157th overall, in 2008. He ranks fourth in goals from that draft class, bested only by Steven Stamkos, Jordan Eberle, and Adam Henrique.</p>

<p>Edmonton Oilers superstar <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4560" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4560">Connor McDavid</a> feels the two-year contract extension he signed Monday gives the team a chance to finish what they've started.</p><p>"It gives the core guys that have been here a really long time, and guys in this room that have come here to be a part of something special, a chance to play that out," McDavid <a href="https://x.com/EdmontonOilers/status/1975635016081416227">told reporters</a> Tuesday. "And that's important to me, obviously. There's no secret that with a team that pushes for it every year like we have for the last number of years, we've given up first-round picks and prospects and all that stuff. Not a ton of young guys. I think two years gives us a chance to play this out, gives us every opportunity to build something here."</p><p>The Oilers have come tantalizingly close to the mountain top, losing back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals to the Florida Panthers.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>McDavid signed at a surprisingly team-friendly $12.5-million cap hit, opting not to pursue a raise from the average annual salary on his current deal.</p><p>"I guess it's a unique situation. We weren't gonna sign a long-term deal, so two years at that number makes a lot of sense," McDavid explained. "Gives us a chance to extend our window here in Edmonton. (Our dog) Lenny's not gonna go hungry with that money. We'll be fine. It's about winning, and it's always what I've preached. So, I think this deal gives both sides what they're looking for."</p><p>McDavid noted that questions around his undetermined future would have been difficult to handle for everyone around the team had he remained without an extension during the campaign.</p><p>"I think, obviously, not wanting to be a distraction plays a factor," McDavid said. "It's a lot for guys to have to come in here and answer questions for other guys. The coach to get asked about it, the GM to get asked about it every day. Nice to get it out of the way, nobody's gotta talk about it anymore. That obviously plays a factor, and then, myself not wanting to answer the question, and giving the Oilers some clarity on what's gonna go down."</p><p>The pressure the Oilers may feel by only having McDavid locked up for two additional seasons is a bonus to the best player in the game.</p><p>"Everyone understands the situation this room and this organization is in. We want to win. Top to the bottom. If (my contract) lends urgency, that's a good byproduct, I guess."</p><p>The Oilers open the 2025-26 campaign at home Wednesday in the Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames.</p>

"Every team's situation is different. Cap is going up. It's tough to envision what the landscape's going to look like, but in the end, you always want to try and find a happy medium."</p><p>Matthews inked a four-year contract with a $13.25-million cap hit in August 2023, which was the highest figure in the NHL at the time. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2028, the same time that McDavid's new deal expires. Agent Judd Moldaver represents both stars.</p>

He managed just four points in 61 games and finished a minus-15, and he averaged less than 15 minutes for the first time since his rookie season in 2018-19.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>Graves broke out with the Colorado Avalanche in 2019-20 when he tallied 26 points in 69 games and led the NHL with a plus-40 rating. He's accumulated 32 goals and 118 points in 433 games with the Avalanche, New Jersey Devils, and Penguins across seven seasons.</p><p>The Penguins will have $11 million of cap space if Graves clears and is sent to the minors, according to <a href="https://puckpedia.com/team/pittsburgh-penguins">PuckPedia</a>.</p>

It's not a hockey play," Dach said. "It's definitely something that if you did it out on the street, you'd be in a lot of trouble."</p><p>The Senators were losing 5-0 when Sebrango grabbed Dach and threw punches. Sebrango was assessed a five-minute major for fighting, a two-minute minor for instigating, and a 10-minute misconduct on the play. He has a career .917 SV% and a 2.55 GAA.</p>
