For every artifact that's been donated, we have a paper trail and signed paperwork of where it's come from."</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>While the Hockey Hall of Fame can request items connected to NHL milestones and events, players and teams aren't obligated to donate them. In contrast, Pritchard said the IIHF has collected, authenticated, and preserved items from the Olympics and world championship tournaments since 1998.</p><p>"Items are formally transferred to the Hall through IIHF's established artifact donation process and added into our permanent collection," the HHOF said in a statement.</p><p>Hughes, however, believes he should own the puck from his overtime goal against Canada that gave the American men their first Olympic gold medal since 1980.</p><p>"I'm trying to get it. Like, that's bullshit that the Hockey Hall of Fame has it, in my opinion. Why would they have that puck?" Hughes told <a href="https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/48232450/jack-hughes-wants-golden-goal-puck-back-hockey-hof">ESPN's Greg Wyshynski </a>on Tuesday.</p><p>The golden-goal puck from Team USA's triumph is currently being showcased at the HHOF in Toronto. The puck from Boston Fleet star <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///pwhl/players/15708" href="https://thescore.com/pwhl/players/15708">Megan Keller</a>'s overtime goal, which clinched gold for the U.S. women's hockey team over Canada, is also among the mementos in the "Olympics '26" display.</p><p>Pritchard also noted that ownership of the puck now involves legal considerations.</p><p>"Part of being a nonprofit registered charity in Canada is it becomes kind of a legal document that we've received it as a donation," Pritchard explained. "We've insured it, we've preserved it, we conserved everything. "We came to it for a good reason. When we evaluate these plays, we look at the play, not the players. And then we look at - if we determine that play was worthy of supplemental discipline - we then look at the history of the players involved and if there's an injury or not. This is how we come to make all of our decisions. We did this and made this decision under those circumstances, felt that this was the appropriate response, and so I stand by it."</p><p>Matthews sustained a Grade 3 MCL tear during the knee-on-knee collision and won't play again this season. Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3500071" href="https://thescore.com/news/3500071">said</a> Saturday that the five-game ban "doesn't seem like enough." The department gave Gudas a phone hearing, which has a maximum suspension length of five games.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>"The assumption was that there was an injury on this play," Parros explained. "Having that information and feeling that way about this, knowing that there's likely an injury, I still decided to have just a phone hearing for that. It wasn't like I decided to have a phone hearing, found out there was an injury, and then wished I had an in-person instead, if that's what you're asking."</p><p>Matthews' agent, Judd Moldaver, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3448878" href="https://thescore.com/news/3448878">called</a> the suspension "laughable and preposterous." He also said, "The player safety department should be suspended."</p><p>"Is anybody surprised that an agent is gonna stand up for his player? I'm not," Parros said. "There's nasty stuff that gets said out there in the social media world, but that's not my concern."</p><p>Edmonton Oilers star <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4560" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4560">Connor McDavid</a> said Monday that "there is reason to take a look at how the whole process works," according to <a href="https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/connor-mcdavid-believes-nhl-should-do-review-of-player-safety/">Sportsnet</a>.</p><p>"We have a process in place that we feel confident in," Parros responded when asked about McDavid's comments. "We've been doing it for a long time. We sweat over these decisions and pore over these decisions every night, all season long. We have a process in place that's consistent, and we have a team that works for me - and together with me - that evaluates all these plays."</p><p>He added, "We've got great guys who make these decisions, and I think the players should be confident in this team to do so."</p><p>Parros has held his role since 2017. He played 474 NHL games over nine seasons, racking up 1,092 penalty minutes.</p>

The player safety department should be suspended."</p><p>This marks Gudas' fifth suspension in his 881-game career. His most recent ban before Friday came in 2019.</p><p>Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube called the hit a "dirty play" postgame, per <a href="https://x.com/markhmasters/status/2032279591293702451?s=20">TSN's Mark Masters</a>. He tallied a career-best 35 goals last year.</p><p>The 35-year-old is signed through 2028-29 at a $7-million cap hit and has a 13-team no-trade clause.</p><p>Kadri won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022. The 34-year-old has a $3.4-million cap hit and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in July.</p><p>The Red Wings are third in the Atlantic Division with a 35-20-7 record. Detroit hasn't made the playoffs since 2016.</p>

He waived his no-trade clause to return to Tampa Bay, where he played two seasons from 2021-23.</p><p>The 40-year-old has a $2-million salary, plus the potential for another $2 million in performance bonuses. Perry has already earned $1.5 million in bonuses for reaching 50 games this season, which counts against the Kings' cap. He'll earn an additional $125,000 for a first-round win, $250,000 for a second-round win, and $125,000 for a conference-final win.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Kings retained 50% of Perry's salary.
