Panarin traded to Kings, signs 2-year deal with $11M AAV
The New York Rangers traded star forward Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings for prospect Liam Greentree and conditional third- and fourth-round picks, the teams announced Wednesday.
Panarin and the Kings agreed to a two-year extension with an $11-million average annual value.
The 2026 third-rounder becomes a second-round pick if the Kings win a playoff series, and the Rangers will receive a 2028 fourth-rounder if L.A. advances to the conference final, reports insider Frank Seravalli.
Los Angeles was the only option Panarin's camp presented, Seravalli adds. He owns a full no-movement clause.
Panarin has 19 goals and a Rangers-high 57 points in 52 games. The 34-year-old holds a cap hit of just over $11.6 million on his current deal, which expires this summer. New York retained half of Panarin's salary in the trade, reports Seravalli.
The Kings' leading scorer is Adrian Kempe, who has 20 goals and 45 points in 54 games.
Panarin had been held out of New York's lineup since Jan. 28 for roster-related reasons.
The Rangers reportedly informed Panarin they wouldn't offer him a new contract in January after general manager Chris Drury issued a letter to the team's fans indicating the club would retool.
Panarin has 321 goals and 927 points in 804 career games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Rangers. He set career highs with 49 goals and 120 points in 2023-24.
The Kings drafted Greentree 26th overall in 2024. The 6-foot-3 winger has recorded 23 goals and 45 points in 34 contests with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires this season. He notched 49 goals and 119 points in 64 games last year and represented Canada at the world juniors in January.
Los Angeles is one point out of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
