Huberdeau to undergo season-ending hip surgery

Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau will undergo season-ending hip resurfacing surgery, the team announced Thursday.

He's expected to recover fully by the start of the 2026-27 campaign, the team said.

Huberdeau has 10 goals and 25 points in 50 games. He scored the opening goal in Calgary's 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old is in the third season of an eight-year, $84-million pact signed in 2022.

"After extensive evaluation, this was determined to be the best course of action for Jonathan's long-term health and performance," Flames general manager Craig Conroy said in a statement. "While it is difficult to lose a player of his caliber, our priority is ensuring he is fully healthy moving forward. Huberdeau has been managing hip-related symptoms throughout the season."

Huberdeau notched 28 goals and 62 points in 81 games last season for his best campaign with the Flames since being traded to Calgary in 2022. He tallied a career-high 30 goals and 115 points in 2021-22 with the Florida Panthers.

The Flames are 29th in the league with a 23-27-6 record.

Huberdeau has 263 goals and 807 points in 962 career games with the Panthers and Flames.
