Rory McIlroy's next competitive event will likely be the 117th United States Open at Erin Hills Golf Club.

McIlroy's agent announced Friday that he will skip next week's Memorial Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, in an effort to recover from a rib injury he suffered at THE PLAYERS Championship.

“All focus is on getting back to full health for the U.S. Open,” the Northern Irishman's agent told Golf Digest via email.

The world No. 2 pulled out of this week's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth due to the injury.

The 28-year-old won the U.S. Open by eight strokes back in 2011 at Congressional for his first major title.
