Sirens protect Nylen Persson after Carpenter, Schroeder sign with Seattle

Professional Women's Hockey League

The New York Sirens added defender Maja Nylen Persson to the team's protection list, the team announced Friday.

New York's fourth and final protection spot was triggered after forward Alex Carpenter and goaltender Corinne Schroeder signed with PWHL Seattle earlier Friday.

Nylen Persson tallied two goals and six points in 23 games this season in her rookie campaign. She sustained a season-ending upper-body injury March 16 versus the Minnesota Frost. The 24-year-old played eight seasons in Sweden's top pro league before coming to the PWHL and is under contract for two more seasons.

The Swede joins forward Sarah Fillier and defenders Ella Shelton and Micah Zandee-Hart on the Sirens' protection list. New York will lose two more players in the expansion draft Monday night.

The Sirens' remaining unprotected players are forwards Jessie Eldridge, Emmy Fecteau, Elle Hartje, Paetyn Levis, Abby Roque, Gabby Rosenthal, and Noora Tulus, defenders Lauren Bernard, Jaime Bourbonnais, and Ally Simpson, and goaltender Kayle Osborne.

Nylen Persson was drafted 10th overall by the Sirens in the 2024 draft. She's represented Sweden at five World Championships and two Olympics, and she was named Defender of the Year in Sweden's top league for three consecutive years from 2022-24 before arriving in North America.
