Naomi Osaka has added another accolade to her resume, overtaking Serena Williams to become the highest-paid female athlete in the world.

The 22-year-old tennis star took home $37.4 million from prize money and endorsements in the last year - $1.4 million more than Williams, according to Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes. That total set a new all-time record for earnings by a female athlete in a single year, beating the previous mark of $29.7 million set by Maria Sharapova in 2015.

Osaka ranks No. 29 on Forbes' annual list of the 100 highest-paid athletes, due out next week, while Williams came in at No. 33.

Among Osaka's endorsement deals is a lucrative partnership with Nike, which paid her more than $10 million last year. The brand is set to launch an Osaka streetwear line in Japan soon.
