Atlanta Braves right-hander Kyle Wright has been diagnosed with a right shoulder strain following an MRI, the team announced Friday, according to Grant McCauley of 92.9 The Game.

The exam did not find any structural damage to his shoulder. However, the Braves do not have a timetable for his return.

Wright, 27, was placed on the 15-day injured list with what was initially called shoulder soreness on Thursday. In his most recent start on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins, he surrendered six hits and four runs (three earned) in two-plus innings before leaving the mound accompanied by Braves trainers.

The Alabama native started this season on the IL because of a shoulder issue and only made his season debut on April 11. In five starts this year, he's posted a 5.79 ERA and 1.77 WHIP with 20 strikeouts and 10 walks in 18.2 innings.

Atlanta was counting on Wright to once again solidify its rotation behind aces Max Fried and Spencer Strider. Last year, he broke out to win an MLB-best 21 games and earn downballot NL Cy Young votes during what was his first full big-league season.

Potential options to replace Wright in the Braves' rotation include Michael Soroka, Dylan Dodd, and Jared Shuster, all of whom are currently in the rotation at Triple-A Gwinnett and on the 40-man roster.
