Only two of those seven losses were by one-run margins, and they've already lost a potential tiebreaker to the Padres. Their starters, save for Spencer Schwellenbach, have struggled. Reynaldo López hit the IL with a potentially serious shoulder injury after one start, and the bullpen hasn't performed anywhere close to expectations as a unit.Even when including Tuesday's seven-run outburst against the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta's offense has generally been non-existent. The Braves have hit just eight home runs through their first 11 games, and their 82 wRC+ sits 23rd in the league. Third baseman and former Silver Slugger winner Austin Riley is sporting an 81 wRC+ with a 35.4% strikeout rate.Other factors have also put Atlanta behind the 8-ball early. Jurickson Profar, the team's marquee offseason acquisition, received an 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs after four contests; if Atlanta somehow bucks the odds and makes the playoffs, he'll be ineligible to participate. Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr. are still out, and while Strider's making rehab starts, it's still unclear when either star will be back in Atlanta, or what version of the stars the team will get.The Braves finally got win No. 1 in their home opener last week, but they'll need more than that to right this ship. That slow start made this week's series against the Phillies one of the most important early April showdowns that we've seen in awhile, as they try to simply keep pace while digging out of this rut. If not for the schedule-makers gifting them an early series against the lowly White Sox, things could be even worse than they already are.Minnesota is one of the worst offensive teams in the AL thus far (0.2 fWAR), while its 74 wRC+ is tied for 25th in baseball. Three of the Twins' eight homers belong to Harrison Bader. Star shortstop Carlos Correa is 7-for-43 with a 44 wRC+, while Byron Buxton owns a .502 OPS and has struck out 16 times in 41 at-bats. Royce Lewis and Brooks Lee opened the season on the IL, and the Twins' lackluster offense clearly misses them.Things aren't much better on the mound, where the Twins' 4.11 ERA ranks 17th out of 30 teams. Starters Chris Paddack and Bailey Ober both have ERAs above 10. Pablo López, Minnesota's one reliable starter through three turns, injured his hamstring during Tuesday's start and is heading to the IL. Defense has also been an issue for the Twins, with sloppy glovework becoming the norm in their games.So yeah, things are bleak in Minneapolis. But this is where the important caveat comes in: the Twins play in the AL Central. That lack of activity looks like a mistake, as the lineup continues to struggle to score runs through the first 13 games of this campaign.Seattle's 44 runs rank 21st in the league, while the club's .200 batting average sits 29th. Julio Rodríguez, Randy Arozarena, Cal Raleigh, and four other starters are each hitting below .200, and only one player, Jorge Polanco, has at least 10 RBIs.To make matters worse, starting center fielder Victor Robles is out at least 12 weeks after injuring his shoulder, Ryan Bliss is sidelined with a torn biceps, and their starting pitching - which was supposed to be a strength - hasn't looked sharp. Seattle's starters have combined for a 4.55 ERA, which ranks 20th.Bryce Miller, in particular, is off to a rough start. The team sits below .500 and tied for last in the NL Central thanks largely to a non-existent offense.Cincinnati's already lost three consecutive 1-0 contests - which hadn't happened since 1960 - and was mired in a 35-inning scoreless drought until last week, a stretch that's tied for the fourth-longest in franchise history.As a team, the Reds are hitting .206 while getting on base at a .267 clip.The offense has either shown up in bunches or almost not at all. Cincinnati's scored 14, 11, and 6 runs in a game, but three or fewer runs in nine of 13 contests. The Reds finished 16th in runs, 19th in homers, and 21st in OPS last season, so another slow offensive start is a bit troublesome for a team that did little to improve the lineup over the winter. The former Cy Young winner hinted that Baltimore's final offer was for four years, with the potential to go up to five, putting it well short of what Burnes was seeking."I don't think the dollar amount was an issue because the dollars here (in Arizona) were more than what they were there (in Baltimore) in the offers. But when free agency came, Burnes - who lived in Arizona even before joining the D-Backs - was apparently ready to go home."I'm not sure any amount of money would have made much difference," Orioles owner David Rubenstein told <a href="https://x.com/jcalvinmeyer/status/1907182058033565964">the Baltimore Sun's Jacob Calvin Meyer</a> last week about losing Burnes to the D-Backs. "We had an offer that, when you add it all up, was very competitive. The 27-year-old led the AL in hits twice during his first four seasons while helping lead Toronto to three playoff berths since 2020. However, he is coming off an <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3249381" href="https://thescore.com/news/3249381">injury-plagued 2024</a> campaign that saw him post a .598 OPS over 81 games.He's off to a torrid start in 2025, though. He's yet to homer, but Bichette's hitting .295/.354/.386 with four extra-base hits through his first 48 plate appearances this season.The Blue Jays bought out all three of Bichette's arbitration years in 2023 when they inked him to a three-year, $33.6-million contract. That deal still left Bichette in line to become a free agent this coming offseason. Should he get there, he'll be in line for a massive payday as one of the top available position players.Although his future in Toronto remains uncertain, Bichette is confident Guerrero's deal with the Blue Jays will work out for both sides over the long term."Luckily, I was in the know a little bit earlier, but super-excited for him," Bichette said. Rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson has gone 9-for-24 (.375) with no strikeouts over his first seven games.<a id="ATL" name="ATL">Atlanta Braves</a>: There's not much when you're the only winless team in the league. At least the Braves won't have to travel back to California anytime soon. They'll have nightmares of San Diego and Los Angeles after going 0-7 through those two cities out of the gate.<a id="BAL" name="BAL">Baltimore Orioles</a>: It's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uRfYBHAFmo">Cedric Mullins again</a>; we can't escape him. Mullins mashed three homers and a team-leading 11 RBIs while posting a 1.092 OPS. The Cubs exploded for 35 runs in a three-game wallop of the Athletics in Sacramento. Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki lead the way early, combining for eight home runs, seven doubles, 22 RBIs, and 17 runs in nine contests.<a id="CWS" name="CWS">Chicago White Sox</a>: The White Sox are 2-4 after six games, which is somehow good enough for a share of the division lead. Last year, during their record-setting 121-loss season, it took them 11 contests to secure their second win and 18 games to get their third. After the previous campaign's misery, guaranteeing the White Sox won't be that bad again has to bring smiles to the South Side.<a id="CIN" name="CIN">Cincinnati Reds</a>: Elly De La Cruz had four hits, two homers, and seven RBIs in his first game using a torpedo bat. He hit 25 home runs and stole 67 bases in 2024 without the benefit of the highly publicized piece of lumber. It's clear Manzardo's ready to anchor Cleveland's lineup.<a id="COL" name="COL">Colorado Rockies</a>: Rockies starting pitchers have an ERA under 2.00. That isn't a typo. Don't adjust your screen. The real test begins when the club returns to Coors Field. At the very least, Kyle Freeland and Germán Márquez should be reliable contributors this season.<a id="DET" name="DET">Detroit Tigers</a>: Casey Mize seems to be finally staking his claim to a rotation spot. The former first overall pick, who's battled elbow injuries, hasn't allowed a run after a solid start to open his year. With a handful of veterans on the shelf, Milwaukee will need Peralta to be at his absolute best if it hopes to stay afloat.<a id="MIN" name="MIN">Minnesota Twins</a>: Harrison Bader is making his hits count. Minnesota's offseason acquisition is 4-for-19 through six games with three homers. His eight RBIs lead the Twins and account for 37% of the team's runs driven in on the campaign.<a id="NYM" name="NYM">New York Mets</a>: Luis Torrens has been a godsend with Francisco Alvarez on the IL. Torrens is hitting .313 with a .978 OPS. His defensive play behind the plate came up clutch in a recent comeback win over the Marlins.<a id="NYY" name="NYY">New York Yankees</a>: No Juan Soto, no problem for the Yankees. Five hitters have an OPS above .970, and three have hit at least four homers. Eovaldi threw a shutout Tuesday, and Leiter followed with five shutout frames in back-to-back 1-0 wins.<a id="TOR" name="TOR">Toronto Blue Jays</a>: The Andrés Giménez trade is paying huge dividends already. Toronto's big offseason acquisition owns a 1.131 OPS with three homers in seven games, and he continues to play stellar defense at second base.
