Although they've never won a championship, the Sun have only missed the playoffs six times since 2003 and made four WNBA Finals appearances.The Mohegan Tribe, which has owned the franchise since 2003, has attempted to sell previously. A reported deal with Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca, who would have moved the Sun to Boston, wasn't approved by the WNBA in 2025. Milwaukee Bucks owner Marc Lasry then tried to buy the team and relocate it within Connecticut to Hartford, which the league also blocked, according to Vorkunov.This would be the second time that the franchise has been relocated. It was founded as the Orlando Miracle in 1999 but spent just four seasons in central Florida before moving to Connecticut.If the pending deal is approved, it would be the sixth franchise relocation in WNBA history.
