The Oakland Athletics and veteran infielder J.D. Davis agreed to a one-year contract, the team announced Saturday.

The deal is worth $2.5 million, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Davis' pact reportedly includes $1 million in performance incentives.

Oakland plans to play Davis at third base, according to Rosenthal.

The New York Mets were among the finalists for Davis before he picked the Athletics, a source told Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

The San Francisco Giants released Davis on Monday, which led to his agent publicly questioning the team's motives because the player won his arbitration hearing. The club decided to part with the 30-year-old following the Matt Chapman signing.

Davis slashed .248/.325/.413 with 18 home runs and 69 RBIs over 144 games last season.

The Athletics designated right-hander Angel Felipe for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Davis.
