Orioles' Bradish out for season after Tommy John surgery

Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias announced Wednesday that right-hander Kyle Bradish will miss the rest of the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Bradish was forced to leave his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies after five innings and was later diagnosed with his second UCL sprain of the season. The 27-year-old missed the first five weeks after sustaining the first sprain near the end of spring training.

"It sucks to lose him because what he brings in so many ways," Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said, according to Danielle Allentuck of the Baltimore Banner. "He was really disappointed that night he had to come out of that game. It's going to be a long road back and we're going to be keeping in constant contact with him. We feel for him. He's a huge part of this team and just because he's hurt doesn't mean he's not. We need to step up in his place, we need to have guys step up."

Bradish emerged as one of Baltimore's best starting pitchers this season. He finishes the campaign 2-0 with a 2.75 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts over eight starts.

Elias also announced left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe had bone chips removed from his elbow, and the club hopes to have him back in September, per MASN's Roch Kubatko.

Coulombe has been a reliable member of Baltimore's bullpen in 2024. The 34-year-old owns a 2.42 ERA, a 0.62 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts across 26 innings.
