The Texas Rangers announced Monday they signed 41-year-old reliever Jesse Chavez to a minor-league contract.
Chavez was the oldest player to pitch in the National League last season and is entering his 18th big-league campaign. He played with the Rangers in 2020, 2019, and part of the 2018 season.
The right-hander was incredibly effective for the Atlanta Braves over the past two-and-a-half seasons, authoring a 2.56 ERA and 9.3 K/9 in 147 2/3 innings.
Chavez will provide the Rangers with another experienced arm in the bullpen should he make the team out of spring training. He'll join offseason additions Chris Martin, Robert Garcia, Jacob Webb, Hoby Milner, and Shawn Armstrong.
