Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was not surprised to receive roaring applause from New York Mets fans during pregame introductions at Citi Field on Friday.

"To be honest with you, that's normal for me," Guerrero told SNY through an interpreter.

"I've never been booed in any other stadium. Everybody always has been nice to me everywhere I go."

The 26-year-old received the loudest ovation of any visiting player during the Mets' home opener before New York defeated Toronto 5-0.

The positive reaction for Guerrero came after the Mets reportedly showed interest in acquiring the four-time All-Star this past offseason and before he hits free agency following the completion of the 2025 campaign.

The Mets didn't get Guerrero over the winter, opting to re-sign long-time first baseman Pete Alonso, but the latter's contract includes a player option for the 2026 season.

The pair of sluggers were seen chatting before Friday's game, but the Blue Jays first baseman said there was no discussion about contracts.

The Blue Jays and Guerrero haven't been able to work out an extension despite mutual interest, but a report surfaced on Friday saying the two sides were close to an agreement of more than $500 million.

Guerrero addressed the rumor on Friday.

"Like I said before, I'm playing right now," he said. "I'm concentrating on the games, on my teammates, and I'm leaving everything to my agent. I haven't talked to them, so I don't know anything at this point."
