Yankees' Chisholm lands on IL with oblique strain
The New York Yankees placed second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
The move is retroactive to April 30, which means Chisholm will be eligible to come off the IL on May 9.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Chisholm is dealing with a "high-grade" oblique strain, according to The Athletic's Brendan Kuty. He could be looking at an absence of at least four-to-six weeks.
"In his mind, it's going to be real quick, but I think it's going to be awhile," Boone said, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "We'll just see how he heals up."
The 27-year-old got hurt last Tuesday during a game against the Baltimore Orioles. He appeared to sustain the injury while batting in the first inning before hitting a double, and he was removed for a pinch runner after reaching third base.
Chisholm has seven homers with 17 RBIs, seven stolen bases, and a .714 OPS over 30 games this season.
Infielder Jorbit Vivas was recalled from Triple-A to fill the open spot on the active roster.
