The Texas Rangers are hiring former All-Star Bret Boone as their new hitting coach, the team announced Monday.

The move is the latest domino after the Rangers fired offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker on Sunday.

Texas has been frigid at the plate, only scoring more runs than the league-worst Colorado Rockies this season. Rangers hitters rank 27th in OPS and 25th in batting average.

Boone was a three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger during a 14-year MLB career which included stops with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, San Diego Padres, and Minnesota Twins.

This will be Boone's first coaching experience in MLB. His brother Aaron is in his eighth season as manager of the New York Yankees.
