Report: Cardinals trying to move Arenado, others after Gray trade
The St. Louis Cardinals aren't done purging their roster after trading right-hander Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.
The Cardinals are looking to move third baseman Nolan Arenado and at least one of their left-handed hitters, sources told Will Sammon, Ken Rosenthal, and Katie Woo of The Athletic.
Arenado has reportedly expanded the list of clubs he would waive his no-trade clause for. It's believed Cardinals ownership would also include cash to help cover the remaining $31 million over two years left on the 34-year-old's contract.
The eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner vetoed a deal to the Houston Astros last December. However, this time around, he's coming off the worst season of his 13-year career after going deep 12 times with 52 RBIs and a .666 OPS over 107 games.
St. Louis doesn't plan to trade All-Star second baseman Brendan Donovan unless the team gets a great offer, a source told Sammon, Rosenthal, and Woo. However, the 28-year-old is reportedly generating significant interest this offseason, as he's arbitration-eligible for two more years.
Alec Burleson, Lars Nootbaar, and Nolan Gorman are three other left-handed hitters who are rumored to be on the trade block with the Cardinals shifting to a rebuild.
