Jandiroba calls for title shot vs. Zhang after UFC 310 cancellation

UFC strawweight Virna Jandiroba is hoping a recent fight cancellation leads to a chance to capture gold instead.

One day after Tatiana Suarez reportedly pulled out of her potential No. 1 contender bout against Jandiroba at UFC 310 on Dec. 7 due to a health issue, Jandiroba called for a title shot against champion Zhang Weili.

"Hi (Weili), I've heard you wanna fight, and my fight just got canceled," Jandiroba wrote Tuesday on X. "Let's make this fight happen?!"

With Suarez sidelined, a title bout between Zhang and Jandiroba seems to make the most sense. Suarez and Jandiroba, ranked No. 1 and No. 3 at 115 pounds, respectively, are the only two top-five strawweights Zhang hasn't beaten. And Jandiroba is riding a four-fight winning streak and hasn't lost a fight in almost three years.

Zhang hasn't publicly commented on the possibility of squaring off with Jandiroba.

Zhang fought just once this year, scoring a unanimous decision win over Yan Xiaonan at UFC 300 in April. Zhang has defended the title twice since beginning a second reign in November 2022.
