Report: Kyrie to sign new 3-year, $119M deal with Mavs
Kyrie Irving is declining his $43-million player option but intends to sign a three-year, $119-million contract with the Dallas Mavericks, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
His new deal is worth $39.67-million annually, less than the player option would've been for the 2025-26 campaign. The contract also reportedly includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.
Irving's return timeline remains unclear after he tore the ACL in his left knee on March 3 against the Sacramento Kings, missing the final 20 regular-season games. However, the Mavericks are reportedly optimistic he'll return in January 2026.
Irving hasn't appeared in more than 65 contests in a season since 2018-19 with the Boston Celtics due to various injuries.
The 33-year-old averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.3 steals in 50 games last campaign, earning the ninth All-Star nod of his 14-year NBA career.
The 2025-26 season will mark Irving's third full campaign with Dallas after he joined the franchise from the Brooklyn Nets at the trade deadline in February 2023. He played a key role in Dallas' trip to the NBA Finals in 2024, averaging 22.1 points and 5.1 assists in 22 playoff games.
The Mavericks now project to roll with a core of Irving, 2025 trade acquisition Anthony Davis, and No. 1 pick to-be Cooper Flagg. Dallas also reportedly signed center Daniel Gafford to a three-year extension worth nearly $60 million on Monday.
