LeBron out at least 3-4 weeks due to sciatica
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will miss at least three-to-four weeks due to sciatica on his right side, the team announced Thursday.
James had yet to suit up in preseason play and missed the first practice of training camp due to a "nerve irritation in the glute," according to Lakers head coach JJ Redick.
The four-time Finals MVP would be sidelined for at least five regular-season contests under the timeline provided.
"You've got to play the cards you're dealt," Redick told reporters Thursday prior to James' injury being announced, according to Greg Beacham of The Associated Press. "That's a shame, but that's just the reality. ... No one has got any time with LeBron.
"That's not just (new center Deandre Ayton), but everybody. (James) hasn't been on the court with the team, but that's just the reality."
James is entering his record-setting 23rd NBA campaign. He has been relatively healthy in recent years, making at least 70 appearances in each of the previous two campaigns.
James averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, 7.8 boards, and one steal last season. He also earned his 21st All-Star nod and All-NBA second-team honors.
James exercised his $52.6-million player option for 2025-26 and is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
