Washington Wizards star forward Anthony Davis is expected to miss the rest of the season in order to make a full recovery for 2026-27, sources told Prime Video's Chris Haynes.

The Wizards acquired Davis in a blockbuster deal with the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. They also landed Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum while sending Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, a pair of first-round picks, and three second-rounders to Dallas.

Davis, a 10-time All-Star, has not played since Jan. 8 due to a hand injury. A calf strain also forced him to miss a month earlier this season with the Mavericks.

The 32-year-old is under contract next season at $58.5 million and has a $62.8-million player option for 2027-28. However, he suggested Friday that he can't commit to the franchise beyond those terms until he discusses the team's potential path to contention with the front office.

"Obviously, at this time, every year, you want to compete for championships and stuff like that," he told The Athletic's David Aldridge. "That's obviously the main focus, getting to that place. Conversations are going to be held to see about getting to that space.

"I've been everywhere the last two years. I want to see the plan, hear the plan, see the vision. Bringing Trae (Young) here and other things in store, what they're thinking of doing, I want to have those conversations with them and see what happens. The city is obviously phenomenal."

Davis averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 blocks in 20 games for the Mavericks this season. If he doesn't feature at all for the Wizards, it would be his worst scoring output in a single campaign since the five-time All-NBA selection's rookie year.
