Arizona coach Miller 'devastated' by corruption charges against assistant

James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona Wildcats coach Sean Miller broke his silence Tuesday on the corruption and bribery charges against his assistant coach Emanuel "Book" Richardson, releasing a statement through the school, per AZcentral.com:

I was devastated to learn last week of the allegations made against Emanuel Richardson. I have expressed to both Dr. Robbins and our Athletic Director Dave Heeke that I fully support the University's efforts to fully investigate these allegations. As the head basketball coach at the University of Arizona, I recognize my responsibility is not only to establish a culture of success on the basketball court and in the classroom, but as important, to promote and reinforce a culture of compliance. To the best of my ability, I have worked to demonstrate this over the past 8 years and will continue to do so as we move forward.

Richardson and nine others linked to college sports were arrested last week as part of an FBI probe into allegations of amateur athletes and coaches being bribed.

Miller boasts a 220-66 coaching record at Arizona. He's won the Pac-12 conference tournament in four of his eight seasons as the Wildcats' bench boss, reaching as far as the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament in seven March Madness appearances.
