USC athletic director Mike Bohn has stepped down, he announced Friday.

"I will always be proud of leading the program out of the most tumultuous times in the history of the profession and at USC with a restored reputation and national milestone accomplishments," Bohn said in a statement to Ryan Kartje of The Los Angeles Times. "I led the process to join the Big Ten conference, hired marquee head coaches, produced the highest graduation rate in school history, and won numerous national and conference championships.

He added: "In moving on, it is important now that I focus on being present with my treasured family, addressing ongoing health challenges, and reflecting on how I can be impactful in the future."

USC president Carol Folt released a statement acknowledging Bohn's resignation where she indicated that the school had "conducted a thorough review of the athletics department, including its operation, culture, and strategy."

Kartje reports that the school had retained Gina Maisto Smith, an attorney for Cozen O'Connor, to perform this review of the entire athletics department, and that four current and former USC employees had heard concerns regarding Bohn.

USC hired Bohn as its athletic director in November 2019. The 62-year-old made a long-lasting impact during his three-plus-year stint with the Trojans, notably having USC part from the Pac-12 conference to head to the Big Ten, which will take place in 2024.

Bohn added that it's a great opportunity for new leadership to move the program forward with USC's conference switch on the horizon, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

The Trojans football team also lured head coach Lincoln Riley to the program from Oklahoma in 2021 under Bohn. USC's men's basketball also ripped off three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Bohn previously served as the athletic director at Cincinnati, Colorado, San Diego State, and Idaho.
