Arch returns to practice but questionable vs. Vanderbilt
Texas quarterback Arch Manning is back at practice but listed as questionable on the SEC's initial availability report for Saturday's game against Vanderbilt as he continues to work through concussion protocol.
Safety Michael Taaffe is also questionable to play Saturday after undergoing surgery Oct. 20 to repair a broken thumb.
"They both practiced here today," head coach Steve Sarkisian said Wednesday, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "Arch is obviously still in protocol. There are steps as it pertains to protocol, but Michael's practiced the last two days."
Manning exited the Longhorns' 45-38 win over Mississippi State in overtime Saturday after suffering a hard hit to the back of the head on the first play of the extra frame at the end of a 13-yard run.
Teammates attempted to help Manning up, but the sophomore quarterback struggled to get to his feet. Team trainers helped him off the field and he remained in the medical tent until the end of the game. Backup Matthew Caldwell connected with Emmett Mosley V on a 10-yard touchdown pass to help cap a rally that saw the Longhorns erase a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Manning completed 29 of 46 passes for a career-high 346 yards to go along with three touchdowns and one interception.
