Arizona State's Leavitt to undergo season-ending foot surgery
Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt will miss the remainder of the 2025 season, head coach Kenny Dillingham told ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Leavitt had already been ruled out for Saturday's game against Iowa State with a foot injury, but Dillingham said Friday the passer will need surgery.
Leavitt came into 2025 as the Big 12's preseason Offensive Player of the Year after leading Arizona State to a conference title and a College Football Playoff appearance last season.
The sophomore passer completed 60.7% of his passes for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns against three interceptions in 2025. He also ran for 306 yards and five TDs.
Jeff Sims is expected to replace Leavitt.
The Sun Devils started the campaign 4-1 but have since lost two of their past three games, including a 24-16 defeat to Houston last week when Leavitt aggravated his injury.
Arizona State is also missing other key starters in recent weeks due to injury, including star wide receiver Jordyn Tyson (hamstring).
