Jets' Rodgers: 'I have to play better' to snap losing skid
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers believes he needs to improve if the New York Jets want to snap their four-game losing streak.
"I have to play better," Rodgers said after the Jets' 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. "That's the key, I have to play better. We have to find a way to run the ball better so we can play-action pass."
Rodgers has thrown for 1,039 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions on 58.8% passing across New York's last four games. He's also fumbled twice.
One of Rodgers' turnovers came just before halftime against the Steelers. The signal-caller called his throw into traffic "a shitty interception" that may have impacted the Jets' second-half performance.
"It felt like the energy - and it starts with me - the energy, for whatever reason at halftime, was a little flat," the 40-year-old said. "It felt like it was flat before the game, too. ... So I look at myself and what I can do to bring better energy, but we all have to do better."
New York's lack of cohesion on offense also frustrated wide receiver Davante Adams, who reunited with Rodgers via trade last week.
"I'm fired up, man," Adams said. "I'm in a bad mood. ... There's a lot of talent. I mean, the offense that we have, the weapons that we have, when I'm in the huddle today multiple times, I'm just looking around (at the talent), and it's kind of crazy."
Adams finished Sunday with 30 yards on three receptions.
Jets wideout Garrett Wilson had 61 yards on five catches but was targeted nine times. One of those led to an interception and ensuing Steelers touchdown after Wilson failed to haul it in.
"I got to catch the damn ball," Wilson said. "I'm playing like shit right now. Got to fix it. I don't take that lightly. That was the reason we lost the game at the end of the day. (That) shit can't happen. Can't happen. It's a terrible play."
The Jets' next opportunity to get back in the win column comes on the road against the New England Patriots in Week 8.
