Parsons wants to run it back: I'd like 'a fair shot' next season with McCarthy
Micah Parsons is the latest member of the Dallas Cowboys to publicly support embattled head coach Mike McCarthy and wants the opportunity to run it back next season.
"I think I would like a fair shot with everyone back – players, coaches – because the injuries kind of struck what this season could really be," Parsons said, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
Parsons noted that he has a good relationship with McCarthy but will defer to owner and general manager Jerry Jones on the final decision.
"In terms of coaching, man, Coach Mike, me, and his relationship has always been really good," Parsons said. "He always took real good care of me. I just don't know how the how the business side of it's going to go, you know? (Jones) has his own mindset about who he wants to coach. This is his team. I'm kind of just, like, a pawn in this business."
Quarterback Dak Prescott recently vouched for McCarthy, who's contract will expire at the end of the 2024 season.
"I believe in him wholeheartedly," Prescott said.
The Cowboys are struggling after three consecutive 12-5 campaigns. Injuries to key starters such as Prescott, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Zack Martin are hindering Dallas' pursuit of returning to the postseason, as the franchise has a 5-7 record with five games remaining in the regular season.
Parsons also missed time this season after sustaining an ankle injury that cost him four games. He boasts 6.5 sacks and six tackles for loss in eight games this season.
The All-Pro defender will enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2025. The team picked his fifth-year option in April that will see him earn $21.3 million next season, per Over the Cap.
The Cowboys will host the Cincinnati Bengals (4-8) on Monday Night Football.
