Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is in the mix to fill the same role with the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars, according to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones.

Kelly, who won a national championship with Ohio State this week, has ties to the Texans' coaching staff, with head coach DeMeco Ryans playing linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-15 when Kelly was the team's sideline boss.

Houston fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik on Friday after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional round. Other top candidates for the position include Houston quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson and New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Jones adds.

The Jaguars are reportedly looking to pair Kelly with new head coach Liam Coen. However, Coen is considered a play-calling head coach, and it's unclear how involved Kelly would be in calling plays during games, per Jones.

Under Slowik, Houston generated mediocre offensive numbers during the 2024 regular season, finishing 19th in points per game and 22nd in yards per game. The team's production largely regressed from Slowik's first year in charge when it ranked 13th and 12th in those categories.

Kelly also worked as a head coach for the San Fransisco 49ers for the 2016 season and UCLA from 2018-23.
