New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn backed veteran quarterback Geno Smith as the team's starter for the 2026 season.

"No doubt about it," Glenn said Sunday at the NFL's annual league meeting, according to NFL.com's Christian Gonzales. "He's our guy."

Smith, 35, struggled in 15 starts for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025, leading the league with 17 interceptions. He was traded to the Jets this offseason, reuniting with the team that drafted him in 2013.

Smith has thrown 32 interceptions in two seasons since his last Pro Bowl campaign in '23 with the Seattle Seahawks. He also won the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year award in Seattle.

"It means to have a bona fide starter come in and lead this offense to where it needs to go," Glenn said about the Smith acquisition. "He's done it a couple of years. I mean, those years in Seattle, when he was Comeback Player of the Year, he was up for MVP early in the season. There's no doubt in my mind that we brought a competent starter here on this team. I look forward to him getting in the building."

The Jets recently traded Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, leaving Smith, Brady Cook, and Bailey Zappe as their current quarterback options. New York - owner of the No. 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft - has been linked to quarterback prospects, though this year's QB class is widely considered weak.

The Jets also have the 16th overall pick and two second-round selections in 2026.
