Metcalf confident Steelers will make 'right decision' amid QB search
New Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf expressed confidence in Pittsburgh's decision-makers amid the team's continued search for a quarterback.
"They made me feel like they had the right decision with who was going to be throwing me the football," Metcalf said of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, general manager Omar Khan, and owner Art Rooney II at his introductory press conference Thursday, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.
He added: "I'm not making the decision in the quarterback room, so I'm just going to try to do the best of my abilities to help whoever they have out there throwing the football."
Pittsburgh is still looking to add a veteran quarterback this offseason. Reports have been swirling about the Steelers' interest in four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, who's a free agent after being released by the New York Jets. The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants are also reportedly kicking the tires on the future Hall of Fame QB.
Russell Wilson and Justin Fields split starts for the Steelers last season. Fields recently signed with the Jets in free agency, while Wilson remains on the open market. Metcalf played with Wilson for three years with the Seattle Seahawks and said Wilson told him he'd love it in Pittsburgh when they spoke last season.
Pittsburgh acquired Metcalf earlier this month from Seattle for a second-round pick and a late-round pick swap. The 27-year-old subsequently signed a new contract reportedly worth $150 million over five years.
Metcalf said he's "ecstatic" to join the Steelers, a franchise whose history he thinks should be the only recruiting pitch needed for available quarterbacks.
"This is a historic organization," he said. "They've done the recruiting before I even got here, so whoever wants to come here and try to win as many games as we can, they can join us. But if not, good luck on the other side."
